Jerry E. Alexander, 71, of McPherson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at McPherson Hospital. Jerry served at Central Christian College for 47 years as Business Dept. Chairman, Chief Academic Officer, Provost, Vice President of Academics, and Interim President. He also served the Higher Learning Commission as a reviewer for accreditation.

He was born on August 10, 1942, in Watertown, South Dakota, the son of John E. and Marian H. (Wilson) Alexander. He received degrees from Wessington Springs College in South Dakota, Greenville College in Illinois, Northern State University (Aberdeen, SD), and the University of Northern Colorado (Greeley), where he earned his Doctorate.

Jerry was a member of the Free Methodist Church and recently retired from the YMCA Board of Directors. Several years ago, he also was a member of Kiwanis.

Jerry was united in marriage to Marie (Kaufmann) Boston on December 26, 1985, in McPherson. She survives. Other survivors include: five children, Todd (Jennifer) Alexander of McPherson, KS, Chad (Kaley) Alexander of McPherson, KS, Candi Alexander of McPherson, KS, Josh (Trisha) Alexander of McPherson, KS, and Barbi Alexander of Victoria, TX; and ten grandchildren, Magan, Mason, Max, Jake, Belle, Jayse, Jayton, Javyn, Jensyn, and Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Alexander.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 6, 2014, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 5, at the church with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
