Jeane Ellen Griffith Boswell lived a colorful life of 70 years, most of it in McPherson, KS. While she often appeared to be somewhat brusk and opinionated (and she WAS that!), she also had a very tender side…mostly when it came to animals (including strays) and humans less fortunate than she was.
In her recent years, she struggled with esophageal cancer. After chemo and radiation treatments, the cancer appeared to be gone, but consuming food by mouth remained difficult and occasionally impossible. She had difficulty living on her own, but Bluestem Pace in McPherson went to the ends of the earth to help her in EVERY possible way.
But even their care couldn’t have foreseen that in JUST ONE DAY she became VERY ill with sepsis, double pneumonia, rapid heart issues, and more. She struggled at the McPherson hospital while the staff worked tirelessly to help her recover. Finally, Jeane just told her doctor that she “Didn’t want to live this way anymore” and asked to be put on Hospice care. He agreed and Pace was able to get her moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS on March 3rd, 2021.
After several visits by family members after she was admitted, on March 10th, her brother (Robert “GRIFF” Griffith) and Jeane’s adopted pastor (Joe Wright), went to see her. During their 45-minute visit, Pastor Wright sang several inspirational songs (including one about no more pain or tears in heaven), read a scripture, and prayed with Jeane including a prayer that Jeane prayed with him confirming her faith in Christ. While it was difficult for her voice to be strong with her oxygen cannula and all, she seemed VERY lucid and clear with her prayer and even remembered that she had an initial conversion at age 12 at Grace Bible Church in McPherson. It was a precious and touching time. She seemed calm when “GRIFF” and Joe left the room after hugging her and sharing “I love you’s.”
Little did they realize that within 60-90 minutes, Jeane would quietly fall asleep only to be swept up by her Heavenly Father’s arms to live with Him forever! PRICELESS!!!
Jeane is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Marianne Griffith, and nephew Brent Zweigle.
