Jay Florine, 90, of McPherson and formerly of Roxbury, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was a welder & owner of Florine Welding Shop in Roxbury, KS. He later worked for Frisbie Construction in Gypsum and Hess Oil Company in McPherson. Jay served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He was born January 29, 1923, in Roxbury, KS, the son of Palmon Julius and Delphine A. (Forsberg) Florine. Jay graduated from Roxbury High School. On December 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Lou Taylor in Canton, KS.
Jay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and Life Member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie of the home; son, Donald J. Florine and wife, Melanie, of Roxbury, KS; daughter, Kari Blankenship of Chicago, IL; sister, Amy Christiansen of Ellsworth, KS; two grandchildren, Vicki Dukes and Connor Blankenship; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brandon Huff and Erika Smith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalyn (Tolle) and daughter, Marva Jo, who both died during childbirth. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Florine, and a granddaughter, Becky Florine.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury, Kansas with Military honors provided by the American Legion Post #24 and the V.F.W. Post #2715. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dick Reynolds officiating.
