Janet S. O'Dell

Janet S. “Jan” O’Dell, 65, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She had owned and operated Elm Place Pre-School in McPherson for 28 years and also formerly served as the Director of Children’s Ministries at the Free Methodist Church.

She was born November 15, 1949, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Norvin and Vitra (Sanders) Rolander. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1968 and McPherson College in 1972, earning a degree in Elementary Education.

On June 4, 1972, she married Danny O’Dell in McPherson.

Jan was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Domestic Dames F.C.E., both of McPherson.

Survivors include: her husband, Danny of the home; a daughter, Sheila O’Dell of Newport, KY; sons, Will O’Dell of Topeka, KS and Timothy O’Dell of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren; mother, Vitra Rolander of McPherson; brother, Larry Rolander of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law, David O’Dell and wife, Jaymie, of McPherson; two nieces and their families, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Norvin.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kansas Ave., McPherson. Burial will precede the memorial service and will be at 9:30 AM on Wednesday at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
