Janet I. Funk, 52, of McPherson and formerly of Lehigh, Kansas, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at her home in McPherson. She was born May 14, 1954, at Goessel, Kansas to Peter, Jr. and Hilda E. Schmidt. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1972 and was a graduate of Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She worked as a secretary at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, formerly worked as a cake decorator at the McPherson Dairy Queen, and had taught piano lessons in her home.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson, was active in the Companions for Christ program of the church, and was involved in various music ministries of the church.
On December 28, 1974, she was united in marriage to Willard R. Funk at Lehigh, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include: her son, Marshal Funk of Seattle, WA; her parents, Peter and Hilda Schmidt of Lehigh, KS; brothers, Darrel Schmidt of Newton, KS and Dwight Schmidt of Hillsboro, KS; sisters, Jolene Klassen of Omaha, NE, LaVonne Marks of Lawrence, KS, and Julia Kaiser of Lehigh, KS; and several nieces & nephews.
Memorial service will be on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, McPherson with Pastor Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will precede the memorial service at 9:30 AM Wednesday at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 13, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
