James "Jim" R. Leewright

James “Jim” Leewright, 86, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Hoisington, KS, died Monday, December 11, 2023, at The Cedars Nursing Home in McPherson.

He was born on October 13, 1937, in Great Bend, KS, the son of Kenneth Russell and Maude Marie (Grow) Leewright.

Jim was a 1956 graduate of Howard High School.  He was drafted into the United States Army in October, 1960, and served for two years as a Military Policeman.

Jim worked in the oil field most of his life while living in Hoisington, KS.  After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing, and traveling.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Maude Leewright, and his brother, Walter Leewright.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Verna French of McPherson, KS. We thank Verna and her family for all the love and support they gave Jim.  Also surviving are his sister, Margaret Hogan of Sedan, KS; sister, Elizabeth Hogan of Neodesha, KS; brother, Robert (Barbara) Leewright of Valley Center, KS; sister, Lillias (Jerry) Butts of Elk City, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 18, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
