Letha Ione (Akers) Johnson, 98, of Lindsborg, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. Besides being a farm wife, Ione worked at Bethany College for a few years, and then in the dietary department at Bethany Home, Lindsborg for over 20 years.
She was born on May 16, 1924, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of John and Irene (Pieratt) Akers. At the age of two, Ione moved with her parents and brother to a farm near Conway, KS. There, she lived until 1946. She graduated from McPherson High School and attended McPherson College.
She was united in marriage to Lester E. Johnson on January 23, 1946, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. This union was blessed with four children. They lived on a farm east of Bridgeport, KS for 65 years.
Ione was a member of the Assaria Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA, The Victory E.H.U., and the Friendly Valley 4-H Club. Ione’s main source of joy was her family. She had a deep love and concern for each member and was always appreciative of their many displays of respect and love.
Survivors include: four children, Larry (Pamela) Johnson of Madison, WI, Loren (Cholly) Johnson of Assaria, KS, Linda (Verne) Hubalek of Lindsborg, KS, and Loretta (Joel) Mayfield of Springfield, VA; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Leland Akers and Don Akers.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 12, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, KS. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 13, at Assaria Lutheran Church in Assaria, KS with Pastor Dean Apel officiating.
