Howard Lee Starks, 84, of Lindsborg and formerly of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. He had worked in the maintenance department at CertainTeed Corporation, worked for Tip Top Dairy in Hillsboro, and was a former ranch hand.
He was born on December 31, 1929, in Elmdale, KS, the son of Floyd Merle and Nellie Gertrude (Brooks) Brown Starks. On October 1, 1954, Howard was united in marriage to JoAnn Miller in Strong City, KS. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and also served in the National Guard & Army Reserve.
Survivors include: son, Douglas Starks (Pamela) of Lindsborg, KS; five daughters, Carla Myers of Moore, OK, Rebecca Alexander (Peter) of Oklahoma City, OK, Cindy Crosby of McPherson, KS, Candy Smith (Clark) of Newalla, OK, and Sandra Clements (David) of Livingston, TX; twin sister, Anna Marie Green of Cottonwood Falls, KS; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Nellie, wife, JoAnn, daughter, Brenda Lee Tucker, six brothers, and three sisters.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Buschbaum officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 10, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
