Herbert M. "Herb" Heidebrecht, 84, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at McPherson Care Center. He owned and operated Albert's Plumbing, where he had worked for 40 years, retiring in 1986. From 1989 to 1991, he worked as a liaison between NCRA and Litwin Construction. From 1991 to 1998, he was an assistant city inspector for the City of McPherson.
Herb served in the Navy during World War II at the rank of Sonar Operator, 3rd Class.
He was born November 13, 1925, in Inman, KS, the son of Paul William and Lena Vera (Schroeder) Heidebrecht. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1943. On Sept. 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Patricia "Pat" Albert. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2009.
Herb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, McPherson Rotary Club, MIDC board member, Board of Directors for Synod of Kansas Presbyterian Church and was on the Church Development Cooperation, V.F.W. Post #2715 and American Legion Post #24, Isis Shrine Temple, and Masonic Lodge #172. He also was a volunteer for Big Brothers & Big Sisters and was a Scoutmaster of a local Boy Scout troop.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 5, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. H. Dick Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is on Thursday, November 4, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
Survivors include: son, Mark A. Heidebrecht (Linda) of McPherson, KS; daughter, Laura L. Pyle (Shawn) of McPherson, KS; sister, Rachel Sutterfield of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Paul "Junior" Heidebrecht of Fort Pierce, FL; two grandchildren, Ann Dark (Cale) of Overland Park, KS and Will Heidebrecht (Erin) of Olathe, KS; two step-grandchildren, Julie Freeman of Ozark, MO and Susan Nye (Ben) of McPherson, KS; two step-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Freeman and Thomas Freeman, both of Ozark, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lena, wife, Pat, and sister, Grace Hill.
