Harry Heckethorn

Harry H. Heckethorn, 83, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2009, at The Cedars, McPherson. Harry was born on February 1, 1926, in Towner, Colorado, the son of Harry Haskins Heckethorn, Sr. and Kathryn Theresa (Stromberg) Heckethorn.

He graduated from McPherson High School in 1944, McPherson College (B.A.) in 1950, and Washington University, St. Louis (Master's in Eduvcation) in 1960.

On June 6, 1959, Harry was united in marriage to Alice M. Kerneghan at Minneapolis, MN. He was a teacher and coach, having taught at McPherson High School. He retired in 1989.

Mr. Heckethorn was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1944 to 1946.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at the Cedars Conference Center, McPherson. A private family inurnment will be held at McPherson Cemetery. A reception/luncheon will be held at the Conference Center immediately following the service and all are invited.

Survivors include: his wife, Alice, of the home; sons, Dale Heckethorn and wife, Tamela, of Cheney, KS and Dean Heckethorn of Salina, KS; two daughters, Susan Heckethorn of Los Alamos, NM and Judy Noller and husband, Don, of Marion, KS; a sister, Kathryn Sturdy of Minneapolis, MN; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Idona Schuring.
