Gladys I. Johnson

Gladys I. Johnson, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. She had worked as an Agent-Telegrapher for Union Pacific Railroad at several stations in Kansas and as a custodian at the Brethren Church and First United Methodist Church. She also worked at Prairie Gardens.

Gladys was born on January 29, 1924, in Doniphan, NE, the daughter of Eugene Arnold and Geraldine May (Riffey) Gregg. She graduated from Nebraska Technical School in Omaha, NE. Gladys was united in marriage to Glen M. Johnson on May 15, 1944, in Hays, KS. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2003.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include: children, Gene Johnson (Pat) of McPherson, KS, Christine Biere of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Dana Johnson (Cheryl) of Lawrence, KS; siblings, Junior Gregg of Lincoln, NE, Kay Jones of Hastings, NE, and Larry Creason of Grand Island, NE; five grandchildren, Annette Palmer (Jed), Lisa Davis (Brian), Mike Biere (Diane), Brian Johnson (April), and Tony Johnson (Rachel); 11 great-grandchildren, Declan Palmer, Tiernan Palmer, Kennedy Johnson, Landon Johnson, Xander Johnson, Logan Davis, Kara Davis, Lindy Thatcher, Emma Thatcher, Jarin Thatcher, and Alex Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Marion Creason, and husband.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, April 6, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 7, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery with fraternal rites by the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
