George William Hodson Sr.

George William Hodson Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2021, at 6:15 AM. He was the widower of Jeanette Marvelle Hodson, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, and Maxine (McHenry) Hodson, with whom he shared 5 years of marriage.

Born in Taylor, Nebraska on May 20, 1937, George was the son of Ralph and Blanche Hodson. He graduated Taylor High School in 1955, Central Christian College in 1957, and Washington State University in the early 1960s with a degree in Industrial Arts. He was employed at many different jobs throughout his life, including High School Industrial Arts teacher, dorm parent and head of maintenance, insurance salesman, fertilizer plant assistant manager, and farmer.

George belonged to the Free Methodist Church in McPherson, and later was part of the Northwest Free Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. He was a Sunday school teacher, a worship leader, and a choir singer for many years. He had a great work ethic, loved helping others, and he liked new challenges. From fixing broken items to assembling all types of puzzles or learning a new game, he was always ready to play. George loved working with his hands outside and enjoying nature.

George is survived by his children Valerie (Ron) Blanchat of Wichita, KS, George “Joe” (Sues) Hodson Jr. of Omaha, NE, and Carrie Hodson of Centralia, WA; sisters Doris Alexander, Caroline Cone (Eugene), Sally Hart (Phil); brothers Gerald Hodson (Marilyn), Richard Hodson (Bev); seven grandchildren, Jeremiah (Heidi) Nelson, Valisha (Eric) Buselt, George (Mandi) Hodson III, John Hodson, Sierra Hodson, Patrick Hodson, and Mariah Hodson; twelve great-grandchildren, Alexis Blanchat, Austin Blanchat, Emerson Roney, Beckham Nelson, Bentley Nelson, Madelina Buselt, Evalea Buselt, Joshua Hodson, Samantha Hodson, Serena Hodson, Sophia Hodson, and Faith Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; brothers Thomas Hodson, Robert Hodson, and Donald Hodson; and sisters Frances Tipperary, Marjory Greene, and Lois Steward.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 24, at McPherson Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
