Luther Eugene “Gene” Meek, 94, of Little River, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2021, surrounded by family at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He retired from Kansas Power & Light in 1992 after 32 years of employment.

He was born on July 29, 1927, in Oilton, OK, the son of Jesse and Rose Lee (Bullington) Meek. On June 29, 1952, Gene was united in marriage to Gladys Lela Smith at the Groveland Christian Church. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2016.

Gene was a United States Navy veteran during WWII, stationed in Guam. He was a member of Groveland Christian Church and was a Boy Scout volunteer. He was also involved in multiple mission trips to Haiti and Spain.

Survivors include: two sons, Dallas Meek (Caroline) of Frankfort, KY and Gary Meek (Doris) of Independence, MO; a daughter, Lori Viramontez (Dave) of Lyons, KS; a sister, Della Ellwood (Galland) of Little River, KS; eight grandchildren, Derek Viramontez, Tyler Viramontez (Emily), Andrew Meek (Taryn), Priscilla Meek, Ethan Meek, Stephen Meek, Caleb Meek (Willow), and Esther Meek; six great-grandchildren, Reagan Viramontez, Adelyn Viramontez, Noel Meek, Alarice Meek, Micah Meek, and Riah Meek; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Carl Meek and Lawrence Meek, a sister, Inez Johnson, and nephew, Mike Ellwood.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 8, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at North Inman Cemetery.
