Frances Merlene Halbert, 77, of Hutchinson, KS, and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 7, 2021, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Among her many occupations, she was a bus driver for McPherson U.S.D. 418, clerical aid at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, cashier at Walmart in Hutchinson, and typesetter at the McPherson Sentinel.
Merlene was born on January 4, 1944, in Ponca City, OK, the daughter of Merle Harold and Frances (Hazen) Townley. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1962, attended Bethany Nazarene College, Oklahoma and Pratt Community College. On March 16, 2018, Merlene was united in marriage to Larry Halbert in Hutchinson.
She was a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.
Survivors include: her husband, Larry of the home; two children, Shawn Merrill and wife, Cherise, of Hutchinson, KS and Barbra Sauer and husband, Rob, of Lyons, KS; a brother, Harold Townley and wife, Sandi, of Garland, TX; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jalane Nelson.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 12, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Avery officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Andover Cemetery, rural Windom.
