Florence (McClain) Crow

Florence Evelyn (McClain) Crow, 95, of McPherson, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at the Sterling House in McPherson. Florence worked at the courthouse for a few years, and then went to work as a secretary for the Anderson-Mettlen Insurance Agency. She worked there 35 years until her retirement. She also helped her husband with Crow Trucking Company. She was always on call and went wherever Charles needed her for his trucks.

Florence was born August 21, 1916, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh Martin and Fannie Louise (Kasey) McClain. She attended the local schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1934. On March 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles H. Crow at the family home west of McPherson. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1980.

Florence was the oldest of the twelve McClain cousins and always took interest and cared for them all.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 26, 2011, at the McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Karen Rice Ratzlaff officiating.

Survivors include: a brother, Herbert O. McClain of McPherson, Kansas; a niece, Karen Sue McGhee-Hensel and husband, John, of Overland Park, Kansas; a great-niece, Sharon McGhee Jaafar and husband, Sami; great-nephew, Sean Patrick McGhee; great-great-nephew, Atticus Reed Jaafar; a nephew, Charlie Peterson and wife, Patty, of Pleasant Hill, MO; great-nephew, Jim Peterson and wife, Melanie; a great-niece, Pam Nelson and husband, James; great-great-nieces, McKenna Peterson and Chloë Nelson; and great-great nephew, Wesley Nelson; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant son, Galen LaVerne Crow who died at birth.
