Evert Leroy Bengston, 92, of Hutchinson, KS and formerly of Windom, KS passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at his family farm in Windom. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. He was a retired farmer and also worked at the Central Sale Barn in South Hutchinson for 22 years.
He was born on September 3, 1920, in rural Windom, KS, the son of John William and Hildur Caroline (Ekholm) Bengston. Evert graduated from Windom High School in 1940. On August 3, 1956, Evert was united in marriage to Bernice M. Bowles at the Andover Lutheran Church, rural Windom, KS. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2012.
Evert was a member of the Andover Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #24.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 5, 2013, at the Andover Lutheran Church, rural Windom, KS with Rev. Thomas Hallowell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time on Thursday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the Andover Cemetery.
Survivors include: three brothers, Arvid Bengston of McPherson, KS, Willard Bengston (Joyce) of Windom, KS, and Virgul Bengston (Carole) of Hutchinson, KS; a sister, Gloria Plooster of McPherson, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Chester Bengston, sister, Carolyn Hannah, brother-in-law, Marvin Plooster, and sisters-in-law, Marcia Bengston and Treva Bengston.
