Elvessie Johnson

Elvessie M. Johnson, 84, of McPherson, died Saturday, August 12, 2006, at The Cedars in McPherson. She was the daughter of Gust Hildur and Clara Kathrine (Chilstrom) Johnson. She was retired and had worked as a secretary in the office of the McPherson Water & Electric Department.

Elvessie graduated from McPherson High School in 1940. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1926, and a longtime member of the Thursday Morning Prayer Group.

On October 4, 1942, she was united in marriage to Edel J. Johnson at McPherson. He died November 15, 1978.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 16, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Survivors include nieces and nephews; Gene & Pat Johnson of McPherson, Dana & Cheryl Johnson of Kinston, NC, and Christine Biere of Highlands Ranch, CO; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; three great-great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Johnson of McPherson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia LaRoche and Delilah Johnson, and a brother, Glen M. Johnson.
