Elmon Redell “Tony” Cobb, 95, resident of rural Galva, passed away on June 17, 2014. He was born November 6, 1918, at Forsyth, Montana, and moved to Galva, Kansas in 1920. On August 21, 1941, he was married to Barbara L. Holderman until her passing in 2007. He was preceded in death by two children, Reba and Richard.
He retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and served as a fighter pilot during World War II in Europe, North Africa, Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. He also served as a bomber pilot over North Korea. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 6 oak-leaf clusters, and campaign medals with 11 battle stars. He was the Professor of Air Science at Wichita State University from 1954-57.
He was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the McPherson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson American Legion Post 24, McPherson Masonic Lodge 251, and McPherson Elks Lodge 502.
He is survived by two sons, Marck (Francine) and Kinley of Galva, Kansas; and, two grandsons, Robert (Nicole) of Los Angeles, California, and Layton (Lika) of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. Private memorial services will be held on June 19, 2014. Memorials may be contributed to the Redell and Barbara Cobb Meritorious Scholarship at McPherson College, in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut St., McPherson, Kansas 67460.
