Charles Eldon Akers, 71, of McPherson, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at The Cedars, McPherson. He was born October 31, 1935, in McPherson, the son of Charlie Asa and Elladora (Anderson) Akers. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1954 and attended McPherson College for two years. He was a lifetime McPherson County resident.
Eldon worked for the City of McPherson, Street Department, for 20 years and also served as a City Commissioner of Streets & Utilites from April 2002 to April 2004. He also engaged in farming. He served in the National Guard for a number of years.
He was united in marriage to Julia R. (Ballatore) Grant on September 30, 2000, in McPherson.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #172, and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Eldon's survivors are: his wife, Julia Akers of the home; three step-daughters, Linda Peterson of McPherson, KS, Carolyn Goering of Andover, KS, and Cheryl Grant of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wendell Akers.
The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 11, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson. The cremains will be scattered by the family at a later date. There will be no visitation.
