Edwin Vernon,

Edwin C. Vernon, Jr., 85, of McPherson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at McPherson Hospital. He was a sub-station supervisor for the McPherson Board of Public Utilities, retiring in 1987 after 40 years of service.

Ed was born on October 13, 1926, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, the son of Edwin C. Sr., and Ada Edith (Lookingbill) Vernon. On March 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Weidenbach in McPherson.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WW II and a Life Member of American Legion Post #24 and V.F.W. Post #2715.

Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Marge of the home; sons, Larry Vernon and wife, Jeanie, of McPherson, KS and David Vernon and wife, Genise, of Lake Oswego, OR; daughter, Barbara Turnbull and husband, Tom, of Independence, OR; brother, Bob Vernon and wife, Roberta, of Parsons, KS; six grandchildren, Joshua Vernon and wife, Jenny, Lance Vernon, Lacey Morgan and husband, Brian, Chris Dreher and wife, Melissa, Chase Vernon, and Emily Vernon; five great-grandchildren, Seth & Olivia Morgan and Kendall, Jordan, & Levi Dreher; and several nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jon Black officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson. Visitation (no viewing) will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
