Edith Alfreda Herbers, 100, of McPherson, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at The Cedars in McPherson. She was a homemaker and had also worked in the County Appraiser’s office for several years.
She was born December 12, 1915, in McPherson, the daughter of Carl A. and Alma Elizabeth (Danielson) Sellberg. She attended the local schools and graduated from McPherson High School. She later attended Kansas State University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. After graduation, Edith taught home economics for three years with one year in Macksville, KS and two years in Ozawkie, KS.
On February 8, 1942, she married Aloysius W. “Al” Herbers in Wichita. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1992.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was very active in WELCA and the Guilds. She was also active in Trash to Treasures, Hilton Homemakers Home Demonstration Unit and was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Donald of McPherson; a daughter, Alma Marie Benett (Russell) of Ormond Beach, FL; a grandson, Jonathan Benett (Melissa) of Reston, VA; and a great-grandson, Tyler Benett of Reston, VA.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Mildred Officer.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 8, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating. Fraternal rites will be conducted by McPherson Post #2715 Ladies Auxiliary.
