Doris Jean Russell

Doris Jean Russell, 93, of Galva, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and worked as a sales clerk at Jarold’s Shop, McPherson.

Doris was born on September 13, 1927, in McPherson County, KS, the daughter of Daniel J. and Susan (Wedel) Koehn. She graduated from Galva High School in 1945. On July 14, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Chester “Chet” Warren Russell at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Galva, KS. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before his passing on September 23, 2016.

She was a member of Galva United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: three children, JR (Deb Koehn) Russell of Galva, KS, Ted (Ruth) Russell of Olathe, KS, and Emma Perera of Galva, KS; daughter-in-law, Beth Robinson of McPherson, KS; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Russell; siblings, Leonard Koehn, Virgil Koehn, Betty Wedel, Victor Koehn, and Bonnie Koehn; grandchildren, J.W. Russell and Mandy Wenger; daughter-in-law, Vickie Russell; and son-in-law, Dennis Perera.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 15, at Galva United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery, Galva.
