Donald C. Unruh, 78, of Galva, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
Born on December 27, 1945, in McPherson, KS, Don was the son of Viola (Jantz) and Elvin Curtis Unruh. He graduated from Galva High School in 1964. On May 16, 1964, Don was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Unruh in Galva.
Don served in the United States Army during Vietnam from January 1969 to November 1969. For many years, he was an active member of the VFW Post #2715 Honors Team and provided military burial honors for countless veterans.
He worked as a mechanic and service manager for John Deere for 35 years and as a mechanic for Enquist Tractor for ten years.
Don loved fishing trips, hunting, gardening, and baking bread, and was an expert at making fried chicken.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Sandra; two daughters, Dawn (David) White and Emily (Eric) Sipe; five grandchildren, Makenzie (Kyle) MacKinnon, Connor Farnham, Ellen Sipe, Ethan Sipe, and Elena Sipe; great-grandson, Jackson MacKinnon; siblings, Linda (Gary) Koehn, Rose (Vaughn) Holton, Roger (Corrine) Unruh, Calvin (Cindy) Helm, Wanda (Bob) Phillips, Vicki (Ken) Krueger, and Dixie (Roger) Kleinsorge; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Barbara Roderick, and infant son, Duane Lee Unruh.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Galva Christian Church.
