Donald Dean "Andy" Anderson, Sr., 83, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2013, surrounded by his family at The Cedars, McPherson. He retired from Pyle Construction in 1992 after 40 years. He then was a crossing guard for 13 years for Roosevelt Elementary School.
Don was born on April 24, 1930, in Big Bow, Kansas, the son of Fred Eugene and Iva Jane (Chase) Anderson. He attended Central College. On March 21, 1955, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Nikkel in Clayton, NM.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2715 and member of the American Bowling Congress.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Doris of the home; son, Donald Dean "Donnie" Anderson, Jr. and wife, Karen, of McPherson, KS; daughter, Debra Sue Bammer and husband, Dennis, of Mt. Washington, KY; twin sister, Dorothy Patterson of Ripon, CA; five grandchildren, Jason Schropp, Jennifer LaSalle, Crystal Walline, Christopher Anderson, and Lauren Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren, Alex Kalkhorst, Kaitlyn Schropp, Tyler LaSalle, Hailee Schropp, Brecken Walline, Autumn LaSalle, and Wyatt Walline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alvin, Albert, and Arden Anderson, and sisters, Neva Nelson and Vera Gorrell.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Anderson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 16, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
