Darren L. Frazier

October 6, 1961 — November 9, 2024

Darren Lynn Frazier, 63, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Marion and McPherson, KS, peacefully passed into his eternal home on Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease and short battle with cancer, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. 

Darren was born on October 6, 1961, in Kalamazoo, MI, the third son of Lynnetta June (Berry) and Donald Flemmins Frazier, I. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1979. He was a graduate of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center and continued his education in Emergency Management at Frederick Community College, Frederick, MD. He pursued his religious education at St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, KS, and completed The Course of Study of The United Methodist Church, in 2021.

On July 12, 1980, Darren was united in marriage to Valerie Ann Spencer at the McPherson First United Methodist Church. This union was blessed with two daughters, Erin Deann and Kimberly Faye.

Darren was the Senior Pastor for Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion, KS, from July 2018 through June 2024, when he and Val moved to Columbia, MO. Prior to that, he was the Associate Pastor for McPherson First United Methodist Church for 2 years and Youth Pastor for 8 years. From 2008 to 2016, he worked for McPherson County where he was the Director of Emergency Management 911 Communications. His Law Enforcement career began in 1983 and for 25 years, he was with the McPherson County Sheriff’s Department, and retired as a Deputy/ Detective.

Darren was a member of the United Methodist Great Plains Conference. He was formerly a member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association as well as the Kansas Narcotics Officers Association. His favorite pastime was playing an online game called “State of Survival,” where he will be missed by his online community. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Valerie; two daughters, Erin (Dale) Patrick of Moundridge, KS and Kimberly (Jacob) Linn of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Addysen Patrick, Ashtyn Patrick, Jaxyn Patrick, Jensyn Patrick, Jase Linn, Riley Linn, and Avery Linn; siblings, David Frazier, Darina “Sam” (Don) Schulz, Derek Frazier, all of McPherson, KS, and Danielle (Dustin) Young of Marquette, KS; brothers-in-law, Carlton Spencer (Madonna Dobbins) of Lindsborg, KS and Craig (Debra) Spencer, and sister-in-law, Cindy (Doug) Pressnall, of McPherson, KS; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Lynnetta Frazier; brother, Donald F. Frazier, II; parents-in-law, Melvin & Marianne Spencer; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Spencer.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion, KS.  The final resting place will be at McPherson Cemetery.  To view a live stream broadcast of the service, PLEASE CLICK HERE.
