Cleora Nelson, 85, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at McPherson Hospital. She was a retired elementary school teacher. She had been a McPherson resident since 1990, formerly of Bonner Springs, Goddard, Emporia, and Clements.
She was born on February 13, 1928, in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of George and Helen (Duncan) Kley. She graduated from Gem High School in 1947 and received her bachelor's degree from Emporia State Teachers College in 1963.
On June 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Nelson in Emporia, KS. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2010.
Cleora was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church and McPherson Association of Retired School Personnel.
Survivors include: her sons, Philip Nelson and wife, Carolyn, of McPherson, KS, and James Nelson and wife, Julie, of McPherson, KS; daughter-in-law, Marsha Nelson of Bonner Springs, KS; seven grandchildren, Stephen and Elizabeth Nelson, Rebekah Nelson, Michelle (Nelson) and Jeff Sussenbach, Megan (Nelson) and Matt McPeak, Rachel (Nelson) and Joshua Woods, Jeremiah Nelson, and Valisha (Nelson) and Eric Buselt; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, David Nelson.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith and Rev. Deborah Somerville officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
