Clay Edward Korte, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018, at McPherson Hospital. He retired as a supervisor from NCRA Refinery where he worked over 30 years.
Clay was born on May 27, 1924, in Garden City, KS the son of Albert Henry and Evangeline Anne (Welch). He graduated from Kinsley High School. He married Bessie Berry in Kinsley, KS, and she passed away on February 4, 1950. On June 24, 1950, Clay was united in marriage to Emma Irene Reed in Dodge City, KS. She preceded him in death on September 30, 1987.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.
Clay attended the McPherson Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Jeanie Kirby (Larry) of McPherson, KS; son, Gary Korte of Bucklin, KS; sister: Vera Muth (Alvin) of Great Bend, KS; four grandchildren, Chris Kirby, Corey Kirby (Tosha), Kristi Stevens (Logan), and Pam Zimmerman (Sam); six great-grandchildren, Dylan Zahn, Lexus Kelly, Hayden Payson, Bailee Stevens, and Brooke & Lane Zimmerman; and 13 nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, and siblings, Viola Merwin, LeRoy Korte, Violet Emerson, and Joy Cooper.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Inurnment will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
