Clarence E. McDonald, 88, of McPherson and formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at Riverview Estates, Marquette. He researched and taught cereal chemistry for North Dakota State University and was a cereal chemist for U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

Clarence was born on October 10, 1926, in McPherson, KS, the son of Lyndell W. and Ina J. (Slabach) McDonald. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1945. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from McPherson College, his master’s degree in milling science from K-State, and PhD in biochemistry at Purdue University.

On December 23, 1955, Clarence was united in marriage to Lois Kay Carney in Lyons, KS.

Clarence served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, having served in the occupying forces in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

Survivors include: his wife, Kay of the home; three daughters, Nancy McDonald (Kris Hughes) of St. Paul, MN, Sue McDonald (Dale Griffith) of Marquette, KS, and Judy Marty (Randall Hartog) of Fargo, ND; brothers, Lyndell McDonald of Wichita, KS and Robert McDonald of Wichita, KS; sisters, Velma Buhler of McPherson, KS and Maryanne Webb of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren, Aaron Marty (Sarah), Hope Marty, and Faith Marty; two great-grandchildren, Calvin Marty and Keegan Marty; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne McDonald.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 22, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
