Charles E. Wilson, 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. He was born on January 26, 1932 in Trousdale, Kansas, the seventh son of Dalton and Gladys Wilson.
Charles was a true son of Kansas, bred on fresh Kansas air, pure Kansas water, and KU basketball. A life-long member of Kiwanis, Charles cooked and served thousands of bison burgers and pancakes to raise funds to support young people and those in need. A lover of sports even beyond KU basketball, Charles never missed a child or grandchild's game within 500 miles, and coached track and basketball at Elyria Christian School. After "retiring" from his Salina jewelry store, Charles spent 20 years building fence, cutting hedge apple trees, pulling thistle, and raising the best beyond organic, grass fed beef in the world on the Roxbury Road Ranch.
Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darlene, and his children and their spouses Charlie, Melonie, Gae, Peter, Rich and Kolean. Charles is also survived by his 10 extraordinary grandchildren (and spouses), who you may have heard him mention, repeatedly: Luke, Erin, Brittany, Kevin, Lauren, Mike, Richard, Nicole, Geoff, Chelsea, Chris, Cory, Devon, and Ryan; by his four amazing great-grandchildren, Lydia, Anna, Levi, and Jean-Paul; and by his great-grand puppy, Eddy.
The family requests no flowers, and that memorials be to the Roxbury United Parish, or a charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held at the Roxbury United Parish, Roxbury, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Charles E. Wilson please visit our Sympathy Store.
