Charles E. “Charlie” Sumners, 83, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at The Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson. He worked as a machine operator for 25 years at CertainTeed Corporation in McPherson. Charlie served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.

Charlie was born on September 13, 1930, in Lakin, CO, the son of Laurence A. and Grace E. (Clary) Sumners. On February 16, 1963, he was united in marriage to Ramona R. West in McPherson, KS. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2008.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: son, Eddie Sumners and wife, Lynn, of McPherson, KS and brother, Darlie E. “Lucky” Sumners of McPherson, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings, Flo Hackerott, Sally Lamkin, Jack Sumners, Bob Sumners, Dick Sumners, Ann Donovan, Joe Sumners, and Larry Sumners.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Terry Tareila officiating. Military Honors will be presented. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 8, 2014, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
