Charles H. Casebeer

Charles H. Casebeer, 92, went home to be with the Lord the morning of January 12, 2014. He died peacefully at The Cedars, surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Red Star, Arkansas on April 2, 1921, to Lola and William Casebeer. He enjoyed returning to Arkansas over the years to visit friends and family. He and Dorothy were dirt track and late model racing fans, and traveled thousands of miles over the years to watch their favorite drivers. He and Dorothy also loved going to auctions, and they have purchased many antiques over the years. They loved to listen to gospel music and have many records, CD’s, and DVD’s of their favorite singing groups.

Charles met Dorothy in Newton, Kansas at a dance. They were married on February 26, 1944, in McPherson while Charles was on leave from the Navy. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy for 3 ½ years during World War II. He served on the USS The Vulcun, a repair ship, where he was in charge of the welding crew. One of the ships he helped repair was the Missouri. He also helped repair the ship his nephew Raymond Barker was serving on. Upon release from the Navy in November of 1945, he went to work for his brother, John Casebeer, who owned Casebeer Supply.

In 1976, Charles started his own oil production business, and was very successful. Before he started his own business, he was an investor in oil. He enjoyed working in the oilfield and made many good friends in the field. He continued to “go up North” as he called it, to make sure all was going well, until health problems kept him at home the last few weeks. Dorothy has mentioned often what a good provider he was. He was very generous with all members of his family and had a soft heart for anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home; three sons, Gary Casebeer of McPherson, KS, Mark Casebeer and wife, Patty, of Lindsborg, KS, and Dennis Casebeer and wife, Jolene, of Galva, KS; his daughter, Pat Anderson and husband, Ron, of McPherson, KS; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John Casebeer, Robert Casebeer, Harvey Casebeer, George Casebeer, and sisters, Rose Barker, Martha Kendall, and Margaret Swanson.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the First Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
