Cecil H. Swisher, 89, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Riverview Estates in Marquette. He was a retired farmer, stockman, and truck driver. He also was a heavy equipment operator for McPherson County Highway Department.
He was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Gypsum, KS, the son of Howard and Anna (Freidly) Swisher. The family moved to the Marquette area in 1929, and Cecil attended Sharp's Creek School through the eighth grade.
On August 19, 1943, Cecil was united in marriage to Helen M. Taylor in Broadview, NM.
Cecil was a member of Marquette United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Smoky Valley Saddle Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen of the home; four sons, Marvin Swisher and wife, Cheryl, of Geneseo, KS, Ken Swisher and wife, Virginia, of Lindsborg, KS, Denny Swisher and wife, Gayla, of Marquette, KS, and Doug Swisher and wife, Rose, of Harrah, OK; a daughter, Debbie Sutton and husband, Darrell, of McPherson, KS; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Hazel Waters, four brothers, Roy, John, Robert, and Keith, and two grandchildren, Jeremy Wayne Sutton and Ambur Marie Swisher.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the Marquette United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Bever officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will take place prior to the memorial service at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, at the Langley Cemetery, rural Marquette, KS. There will be no visitation.
