Carol Louise Johnson, 82, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Heartland Haven, Inman, KS. She had worked at Dillons Bakery, Farmers Alliance, Raleigh’s Drug Store, Kit Manufacturing, and Culver’s Liquor Store.
Carol was born on March 5, 1937, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Forrest D. and Mildred L. (Garrelts) Kennedy. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1955. Carol was united in marriage to Leonard J. Geist on September 19, 1956, in McPherson, KS. On October 25, 1986, she married Janus Lee Johnson in McPherson. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2017.
She was a member of New Hope Evangelical Church and former Bluebird Troop Leader and 4-H Leader.
Survivors include: two children, Alisa Leiker (Mark) of Stilwell, KS and Lenny Geist of Overland Park, KS; brother, LeRoy Kennedy of Claremore, OK; five grandchildren, J.L. Nordbye, Randi Spruill, Kyler Leiker, Brandt Geist, Solei Geist; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by step-children, Dan Johnson of Germany, Kelly Johnson (Tatiana) of Merritt Island, FL, Lyndia Patton (John) of Rocky Mount, MO, and Deanna Ediger (Wes) of Inman, KS; 13 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Don Kennedy and Cleo “Bill” Kennedy, and daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Harold Hamblen.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 5, 2019, at New Hope Evangelical Church with Pastor George Bocox officiating. A private graveside service will precede the funeral at Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson.
