Carol E. Ely, 95, of Hesston and formerly of Inman, died on Monday, February 23, 2015, at Newton Medical Center. She was born near Inman, KS on Oct. 7, 1919, the daughter of Ernest and Lucy (Cooprider) Ely.
Carol attended Inman High School and graduated with the class of 1939. She attended Hesston College for one year and later graduated from McPherson College with a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. She began her 40 year teaching career in a one room school at Groveland, KS. After teaching 34 years in the Inman Elementary School, she retired in 1983.
She was a member of Inman Mennonite Church, Inman Women’s Mission Society, NEA, and KNEA.
Survivors include: nephew, Larry Brunk (Dorothy) of Inman, KS; nieces, Joan Gerber of Hesston, KS, Elaine Schmidt (Harry) of Wichita, KS, Carolyn Yoder (Norman) of Lindsborg, KS, Mary Lou Zuercher (Phillip) of Canton, OH, Peggy Miller (Orvin) of Hutchinson, KS, and Marilyn Gwartney of Battle Ground, WA; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Harold and Oren Ely, sisters, Lois Johnston and Evelyn Brunk, nephews, Gale Ely, Daniel Ely, and Robert Brunk, niece, Hazel Anders, great-nieces, Lucy Bontrager, Nicole Green, and Kelly Miller, and great-great-nephew, Michael Lange, II.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Inman Mennonite Church, Inman, KS with Rev. Eric Buller officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM, Thursday, until service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at West Liberty Cemetery, Inman.
