Carol E. Dies

Carol E. Dies, 76, of Moundridge and formerly of McPherson and Lehigh, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at McPherson Hospital. She was a legal secretary for 44 years for William S. Mills Law Office, prior to working in the fitting room at Wal-Mart and for Windsor Place as a home health aide.

Carol was born on December 13, 1937, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Jonathan Earl and Mabel Antonette (Gustafson) Shugar. She graduated from Canton High School in 1955 as a class salutatorian.

She was united in marriage to Robert E. “Bob” Shaw and Harry J. Dies, whom both have preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir and in the “Spirit” Women’s Ensemble. She also was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Moonlighters CB Radio Club.

Survivors include: three children, Kendall Shaw and wife, Jennifer, of McPherson, KS, Lynette Pauls and husband, Greg, of McPherson, KS, and Darin Shaw and wife, Amanda, of Owasso, OK; four step-children, Valeda Hack and husband, Lonnie, of Mills, WY, Kris Reese and husband, Gary, of Canton, KS, Brad Dies and wife, Paula, of Lehigh, KS, and Kim Stute of Plano, TX; brother, Walter Shugar and wife, Bertha, of Lebanon, MO; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and son, Scott Shaw.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson. Private inurnment will take place prior to the service at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 5, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.
