Betty Gonzales

Betty J. Gonzales, 83, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 8, 2012, at The Cedars, McPherson. She worked as a machinist at CertainTeed. In her earlier years, she was a cook at the White Swan.

She was born on July 3, 1928, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Leora A. (Rusk) Wakefield. On October 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to John Louis Hawk in Keokuk, Iowa. He died January 21, 1980. On May 16, 1986, she married Lawrence Donald Gonzales. He died July 13, 1990.

Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society. She also volunteered for the McPherson County Humane Society.

Survivors include: daughter, Andra Maria Catton of McPherson, Kansas; sons, John L. Hawk, Jr. of Las Cruces, New Mexico; brother, Lewis Morgan and wife, Charlotte, of Canton, KS; sisters, Jimmie Smith and husband, Floyd Frenzen, of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Martha Anderson of Afton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Bradley, Natasha, and Amanda Catton of McPherson, Kansas; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Youngblood of McPherson, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother, Webster Wakefield, and sister, Marcelyn McClain.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at10:30 AM, Friday, June 15, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Hien Paul Nguyen will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM. The family will be present from 5:00 PM until the close of the Rosary.
