Betty Fortune

Betty L. Fortune, 80, of McPherson, died Monday, September 19, 2005, at Angel Arms, McPherson. She was born October 9, 2005, at Pitcher, OK. She was the daughter of Floyd and Ruby (Baines) Ligon. She had lived in McPherson since 1948, moving from Pittsburg, Kansas. On November 8, 1948, she married Roger W. Fortune at Pittsburg, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2003. She was a Southwestern Bell Telephone operator and also worked in an ammunition factory in Kansas City.

Betty was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Keil officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2005, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Survivors include: sons, David Fortune of McPherson and Doug Fortune of McPherson; daughter, Patricia Fortune-Oppenheimer of Charlottesville, VA; a brother, Arthur Hester of Paris, France; a sister, Katherine Patrick of Punta Gorda, FL; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
