Bethel Westervelt

Bethel Jane (Tucker) Westervelt, 89, of McPherson, KS, formerly of Pittsburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at McPherson Health and Rehab.

She was the only child born to Howard and Thelma (Sewell) Tucker, of Independence, on December 2, 1933. She attended Independence High School, graduating in 1951. On July 13, 1952, Bethel married Robert Earl Westervelt. They were married 56 years.

Bethel worked at Montgomery County Courthouse, the first nursing home in Independence, Washington Elementary School, and PITSCO. Robert worked 38 years at KG&E. Bethel was a member of McPherson First United Methodist Church and Central Kansas Sewing Guild.

She is survived by daughter Connie (Steve) Swartz of McPherson, son Dan (Stowe Weeks) Westervelt of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, grandchildren Kimberly (Keith) Shank, Kayla (Paul) Curry, Brandon (Ky) Westervelt, and great-granddaughter Nova Curry.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

There will be a visitation at the home of Steve and Connie Swartz, 300 N. Baer, McPherson, on Friday, June 16, from 2-8pm.
