Barbara L. Eberle, 87, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at The Cedars, McPherson. She was a 3rd grade teacher at Halstead and Americus, a cashier at Kansas Power & Light, and retired in 1996 from the District Court where she was a bailiff.
Barbara was born on September 18, 1934, in McPherson, KS, the youngest of six children born to Ellis S. and Gertrude May (Post) Gayer. She attended the McPherson schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1952. She received her Associate Degree from Emporia State Teachers College. On April 24, 1955, Barbara was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” A. Eberle in McPherson, KS. This union was blessed with three children, Susan Rene, Gena Sue, and Brad Scott.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She spent many years of volunteer work through First United Methodist Church, Churches United in Ministry, McPherson Hospital and other outreach programs. In 1980, Barbara was a survivor of cancer but was sorry many of her family members were not.
Survivors include: a grandson, Tyler Steffes-Herman (Molly) of Topeka, KS and their daughter, Gena Steffes-Herman; a granddaughter, Jackie Lima (Carlos) of Kansas City, KS and their sons, Ori, Mikko, Tavi, and Tiago Lima; brother, Glenn Gayer of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law, Berniece Gayer of McPherson, KS; nephews, Todd Gayer (Dina), Jeff Gayer (Valerie); nieces, Linda Totman (Don), Nanci Shaw (Dennis), Michelle Faul (Doug); Bob’s nieces, Dee Ann Easley (Tom), Julie Zadinsky (James), Carla Pearson (Floyd), Lisa Schmidt (Kevin), and Lori Tector (Jeff); and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bob Eberle; parents, Ellis & Gertrude Gayer; her three children, Susan Eberle (in infancy), Gena Steffes, and Brad Eberle; brothers, Frederick Gayer (in infancy), LaMarr Gayer, and Lawrence “Larry” Gayer; a sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Geiman and her husband, Roy; sister-in-law, Loreen Gayer; and a nephew, Doug Gayer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 5, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Emily Spearman Cannon officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
