Arthur F. “Art” Miller, Ed. D of McPherson, died on Wednesday, June 22, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born on July 3, 1929 in Woodland, CA, and was the son of Lloyd W. and Opal Lucille (Hanna) Miller.
He graduated from high school in Dodge City in 1947 and was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Welch on January 1, 1949 in Newton. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #24.
He received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees from Northern Colorado University at Greely, CO, which led to a distinguished career in education as a high school teacher and coach. He served as Registrar, Dean of Men, and Director of Counseling Services at Emporia State University. He was a professor of psychology and counselor in the Community College System in California, and president of the California Teachers’ Association. Dr. Miller was also a licensed psychologist and practiced in California.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy of the home; daughters, Gay Henrikson-Ladwig (Phil) of Wichita, KS and Kay Miller Davis (Andrew) of Wichita, KS; son, Michael Fontaine (Terri) of Valencia, CA; grandchildren, Jon Henrikson of Minneapolis, MN, Jason Henrikson (Amber) of McPherson, KS, Alicia Houston (John) of Kansas City, KS, Justin Perkins of Wichita, KS, Trey Fontaine of Valencia, CA, and Chloe Fontaine of Valencia, CA; and four great-grandchildren.
The family has established The Coach Miller Football Fund to support McPherson school system football programs.
