Art Nilson

Arthur “Art” E. Nilson, 82, of Gypsum, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, surrounded by family at his home.  Art was a retired dairy farmer.

Art was born on November 21, 1940, in Salina, KS, the son of Emanuel Oscar and Augusta Grace (Schwarz) Nilson.  On February 1, 1964, Art was united in marriage to Mary Anna Machetta.

Survivors include: his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Anna Nilson; son, David Nilson of Gypsum, KS; daughter-in-law (wife of Dan), Renee Nilson of Canton, KS; three siblings, Eugene (Judy) Nilson of Gypsum, KS, Dorothy (Richard) Eppler of Paola, KS, and Joan (Walter) Arrasmith of Lindsborg, KS; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two on the way; and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel T. “Dan” Nilson; a daughter, Tasha D. Trout; and granddaughter, Effie Grace Trout.

In accordance with Art’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  A celebration of Art's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, at the Gypsum City Auditorium.
