Arnold L. Serviss, 87, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was a retired executive director of the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS). He served in the Merchant Marines from 1946 to 1947 and the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was discharged at the rank of Sergeant.
He was born on March 1, 1925, in Canton, KS, the son of David M. and Cora Esther (Hart) Serviss. He graduated from Canton High School in 1943 and attended McPherson College and Kansas State University. Arnold was united in marriage to Mariam O. Crane on Aug. 9, 1950, in Roxbury. She died March 1, 1973. He married Liselotte Geiger on July 12, 1974, in Moundridge, KS.
Arnold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Life Member of the American Legion Post #24, V.F.W. Post #2715, I.O.O.F. #376, and BPOE #502.
Survivors include: wife, Liselotte of the home; daughters, Arnell Whited and husband, Gary, of McPherson, KS, Bettina Rogers and husband, Ryan, of Wichita, KS, and Lori Hardin of Newton, KS; sisters-in-law, Clela Serviss of McPherson, KS and Laura Serviss of Lyons, KS; six grandchildren, Stephanie King, Melanie Schulz, Leslie Hardin, Steven Medina, Devin Medina, and Helene Medina; five step-grandchildren, Harper Rogers, Harmony Rogers, Hampton Rogers, Hannah Rogers & Mercedes Lecklider; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives & friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, five brothers, Ralph, Charles, Lucien, Harry Dale, & Lloyd; six sisters, Elva Meljo, Thelma Miller, Vera Janzen, Lillian Boyce, Bettie Cleek, & an infant sister.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 27, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. H. Dick Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Valley View Cemetery at 4:30 PM, Sunday. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Saturday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
