Ann Laverne Farrier, 97, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Lawrence, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital
Laverne was born on August 15, 1925, in Shidler, OK, the daughter of Frank and Mary Lee (Kingsolver) Phillips. She graduated high school in Neosho, MO. On January 12, 1946, Laverne was united in marriage to Fred Farrier in Baxter Springs, KS. This union was blessed with three children, Peggy, Kathleen, and Daniel. Laverne and Fred were married for 67 years before his passing on August 29, 2013.
Laverne was a homemaker, worked for Hallmark Cards, and was an operator for Bell Telephone. Laverne was known for the thousands of cinnamon rolls she lovingly baked for her appreciative family, and for the thousands of teddy bears she sewed up for the children in the hospital, and many people were the lucky recipients of her hand knit scarves and baby blankets and pillows.
She was a member of McPherson church of Christ and former member of the Southside church of Christ in Lawrence where she taught Sunday school and ladies bible classes, and was a great hostess to the KU college kids. She was an Elders wife and a woman who followed the Lord God faithfully.
Survivors include: three children, Peggy Lynn (Michael) Bassham of Sulfur Springs, TX, Kathleen (Dr. Gregory) Thomas of McPherson, KS, and Daniel (Marsha) Farrier of Georgetown, TX; eight grandchildren, Ann Kathleen (Jeff) Demuth, Stephanie (Richard) George, Susan (Brian) Heflin, Megan (Stephen) Eck, Dr. Reid (Kem) Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Shelley (Todd) Tindel, and Emily (Roy) McGhee; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 14, 2023, at McPherson church of Christ. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM, on Saturday, July 15, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.
