Acelee Ellwood

Acelee (Neel) Ellwood, 97, formerly of Windom, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River. She was an accountant and did income tax preparation for many area farmers and others in the community. In addition, she was a housewife, mother, and part-time bookkeeper for the local telephone company.

She was born August 3, 1913, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Asa Aliff and Pearl Wavelet (Draper) Neel. She lived in the Windom community most of her life and was a 1931 graduate of Windom High School. Acelee was a longtime member of the Windom Church of Christ and a leader in the Meadowlark 4-H Club.

On June 15, 1931, she was united in marriage to Glenford LeRoy Ellwood in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three children. Glenford preceded her in death on February 24, 1988.

Survivors include: a son, Galland Ellwood (Della) of Windom; two daughters, Jeanine McNally (Stanley) of Salina and Linda Teeter (Bill) of Little River; ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and seven brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Windom Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
