Abner A. Vickrey, 79, of Lindsborg, KS and formerly of Salina, KS and McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, was a licensed cosmetologist, worked at KIT Manufacturing, was a carpenter for Don Hoch Construction, owned and operated Vickrey Construction, and worked in the wastewater treatment plant at Schwan’s in Salina.
He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963.
Abner was born on October 7, 1940, in Emporia, KS, the son of Abner Hezekiah and Margaret Mae (Burris) Vickrey. He graduated from Canton High School in 1959. On May 22, 1960, Abner was united in marriage to Brenda K. Andersen.
He was a member of the Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church, Lindsborg American Legion, Lindsborg Tree Board, and Lindsborg Senior Center Board.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 60 years, Brenda of the home; three children, Brad Vickrey (Marlene) of McPherson, KS, Dena Miller (Darren) of McPherson, KS, and Lynette O’Dell (Dana) of Lindsborg, KS; two siblings, Larry Vickrey (Anita) of McPherson, KS and Judith White (James) of Canton, KS; five grandchildren, Parker Miller, Allie Miller, Stephanie O’Dell, Tyler O’Dell, and Madison O’Dell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Marina Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church with Rev. Jeff Waugh officiating.
