Remembering Delbert “Del” Hueske

Delbert “Del” Hueske of Moundridge, Kansas, formerly of Beatrice and Plymouth, Nebraska, passed away on July 19 in Wichita, Kansas. While we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life marked by service, laughter, integrity, hard work, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

Del was born on December 11, 1940, to Herbert and Olinda (Blome) Hueske. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School before graduating from Plymouth High School in 1958. His education continued during four years of service in the United States Air Force, where he received technical training in HVAC that became the foundation for his lifetime work.

Del proudly served his country, including a year in Vietnam in 1966. Like many veterans of that war, he carried those experiences quietly, rarely speaking of what he had witnessed. His service earned him the Air Force Commendation Medal and other honors. One of the highlights of his later years came in 2021 when he participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The warm welcome home he received meant more than words could express, especially after the reception Vietnam veterans experienced upon returning home decades earlier. He remained a proud member of the American Legion for 58 years.

In May, Del and Carol celebrated 58 years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, family, and adventure. They were blessed with two children, Darin and Gina. His career took them from Norden Laboratories in Lincoln, Nebraska to Sterling Drug (now Pfizer), Kuhn-Krause Corporation, and finally his post-retirement job at McPherson Hospital all in Kansas. Even in retirement, Del couldn’t stay idle. He did extensive work on a new home they built in Moundridge. Later, they bought another home to totally renovate for resale.

Anyone who knew Del knew he could make people laugh. His wit was quick, his sarcasm legendary, and his sense of humor unforgettable. He loved giving people a hard time—but always in a way that made them smile. Beneath that ornery exterior was a kind, patient, and generous man who would gladly stop to help someone in need.

Of all the blessings in Del’s life, none brought him more pride than his children, Darin and his wife, Dawn (Korte), and Gina and her husband, John Loomis, and their grandchildren: Regan and Erin Hueske and Madison and Jackson Loomis. They inherited not only his sense of humor but also his ability to tease him right back, something he secretly loved. Their laughter brought him much joy.

Del was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Paul Stichweh; his sister, Lorraine Bitting and her husband, Ken; brother, Vertis; brothers- and sisters-in-law Wayne and Elaine Schroeder, Melvin and Darlene Meyer, Dorothy Haecker, Charlotte Molzer, Wayne and Alice Wiedergreen; and nephews Kent Yost, Scott Schroeder, and Dion Higgins.

He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law Marvin & Gladys Yost, Plymouth, Ken Molzer, Papillion, Dennis & Kathy Haecker, Lincoln, Dale & Linda Bleich, Hebron, Randy Haecker, Plymouth and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The world is a little quieter without Del’s stories, jokes, and gentle teasing. But everyone fortunate enough to know him carries a piece of his spirit forward. We give thanks for his life, cherish his memory, and find comfort knowing that his work here on earth is complete.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church (119 North Elm St., McPherson, KS 67460).

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, at Peace Lutheran Church, (72165 573rd Avenue, Plymouth, NE 68424).

A private graveside service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Plymouth, NE.
